There is a lot of history in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Salem Baptist Church is proud to be a part of that history. Salem Baptist was organized in 1794, when George Washington was the President of the United States at the time.
It is a blessing reading through the long years of history and seeing how God worked in providing men and women who have had one goal – to honor and glorify Him. You can see the historical small white church next door and imagine all that God did there. Salem was used to begin two sister churches from that small band of people.
The church has gone from a log cabin to a beautiful sanctuary built in 1984. Though our people no longer give offerings like they used to (i.e. bags of peas and bushels of corn) or arrive like they used to (in a horse and buggy), one thing has remained the same – the word of God has always been and will continue to be proclaimed each and every Sunday.
